We are excited to share the significant progress in rebuilding the Christian Studies Framework and revising its curriculum.
This project has been a collaborative effort, with over 40 dedicated teachers and leaders from 33 Lutheran schools and Early Learning Centres actively contributing through Reference and Focus groups. Christian Studies leaders from each region have also participated, offering valuable feedback and enthusiastic support for the project’s direction.
The working groups have focused on creating a framework that resonates with the diverse backgrounds of our learners. They committed to shaping a curriculum framework centred around Big Ideas that engage Lutheran and non-Lutheran students alike, including those from other Christian denominations, other religious traditions, and non-religious backgrounds. Their aim has been to make Christian Studies meaningful for all without compromising the rich theological depth of the Lutheran Christian heritage.
Aligning with both the Australian Curriculum and the Early Years Learning Framework has also been a priority, ensuring that the new framework supports our youngest learners—from birth—through to students in Years 11 and 12. This alignment will help educators integrate Christian Studies seamlessly with broader educational standards, fostering continuity and growth across the learning journey.
Through consultation, thoughtful development, and alignment with national standards, the project is advancing towards a contemporary look and feel while honouring Lutheran traditions. This work is bringing a renewed sense of excitement to Christian Studies, affirming its relevance, depth, and inclusivity across our communities. We extend our thanks to the many voices who have contributed so far and look forward to continued progress in 2025, with a wider presentation at ACLE.
