Australian Lutheran College (ALC) and Lutheran Education Australia (LEA) are excited to announce a new joint initiative to strengthen research, scholarship and professional learning across Lutheran education, with the appointment of Tom Brennen as Lutheran Education Research Fellow.
The Research Fellow will strengthen connections between researchers, educators and Lutheran learning communities, support collaborative research projects, translate research into professional learning and connect contemporary educational research with our rich Lutheran theology and practice. The initiative reflects a shared commitment by ALC and LEA to strengthen research capacity in the area of Lutheran Education.
An initial project for the Research Fellow will be to coordinate the development of a new ALC subject, Introduction to Ministry and Mission in Lutheran Schools, designed to provide educators with an accessible introduction to the distinctive identity, vocation and mission of Lutheran education.
In addition, the Research Fellow will host a series of research sharing events, providing opportunities for educators and researchers to share and discuss current research in Lutheran Education.
Tom brings extensive experience in Lutheran education to the role. A lecturer at ALC and doctoral researcher examining social justice in Australian Lutheran schools, Tom has spent more than a decade serving as a principal in Lutheran schools across Victoria and South Australia. His combination of educational leadership, theological scholarship and practical experience places him in a strong position to connect research with the lived experience of Lutheran learning communities.
